Hazy Days
I took this photo a couple of weeks ago when the smoke from the wildfires in Canada was about its worst, at least here. I don’t believe it was a cloudy day, and there are no filters being used. This is just the haze.
No metaphors this time. Just the sun as it appeared that evening.

Leaf Corona
I was struck by the shape of the leaves at the center of this photo while talking to my sister on the phone. I kind of half-noticed it, with my eyes unconsciously returning to it a few times before it really registered as an image. What a strange shape for leaves to make, the sharp edges guarding the absent center. And then I realized it’s kind of like a corona, which made me think of the logo I made for the Corona Lectures, except in negative.

Dreaming the Imbocceable Dream
There are twelve teams in the Wednesday night edition of the Northeast Bocce League, and the top eight make the playoffs. Well, everyone gets to keep playing, but only a team in the top eight can win. My team, the (variously spelled) Imbocceable Dream, has been lingering in ninth place for weeks. (Nearly every team’s name is a pun on the word “bocce.”) My sources tell me that after two strong weeks we’ve busted into eighth place. This is pretty exciting news. We can play pretty well when we focus, so if we can stay in the top eight, we just might have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs.

Corona Collaborations
For the next phase of the Corona Lectures, I wanted to incorporate other creators’ work even more deeply into my videos, to invite an even more active involvement. I see a wide range of possibilities for how this might work, since there are so many aspects to the videos, including image, text, performance, and sound. If you work with any of those, there’s fertile ground for a Corona Collaboration.

Rock Piles
Sometimes life is about finding all your rocks and putting them in a pile. Once you have, your job is to figure out what you’re supposed to do with them. Then you have to do it.
What’s surprising is how hard it can be to even find the rocks. Until you stub your toe on them, that is.

Accumulating Material
Forgive the cloudy image—the photo is taken through three panes of dirty glass—and also forgive my ornithological ignorance, but this nest has been a source of entertainment for weeks. The photo is of the awning outside my office window, where periodically finches will build a nest. It’s not an ideal location, as one of these metal slats the awning is made of, but on the left side, outside the frame, is missing, which led to a horrific blue jay attack some years ago. They don’t build a nest every year, and I think it’s been several since they have.

Oh L’Amour
I’ve been letting this blog slide.
I’m working on a significantly longer term project than the monthly lectures, and it has left me adrift at times. Lots of times. I’m hoping I just caught a breeze, though.
